IBM Team visits Concpeción and Talcahuano

IBM Chile Team 2 had the kick-off meeting for the current projects last Monday, August 8th, in Concepción.  The goal is to provide tailored projects and consulting to different ONGs and Institutions such as Manos del Biobio, Trabajo para un Hermano, AcciónEmprendedora and I.Municipality of Talcahuano and, on the other side, learn from the Chileans.

Every sub-team has had a great welcome and is now working on the deliverables, but not without knowing the social and structural background of each institution.

As Chile has a lot to offer in terms of tourism, the team also plans to visit Concepción´s surrounding area of the Andes like Nevados de Chillán, National Parks, Pucón and others.

Peninsula of Hualpén

Peninsula Hualpén

The best way to discover the Peninsula of Hualpén is by bike. Start your ride in Concepción, then take the Costanera towards Talcahuano and turn left just before PetroPower.

Leave the big industries behind you and just follow the dirt road out into the green. There is only little traffic as only campesinos or Huasos (people from the countryside) live there.

This is the Laguna Grande, a picturesque lake in the neighbourhood commune of San Pedro de La Paz (bus line 40), just across Chile´s broadest river, the Bio Bio. The penquistas (inhabitants of Concepción usually go there for a walk with their chiledren / kids and enjoy the relaxing atmosphere of the woods and the water. There are also a roaming, a wind surf and a sailing club.

Dies ist die Laguna Grande, ein malerisch gelegener See in der Gemeinde von San Pedro de La Paz (Linie 40), gleich am anderen Ufer des breitesten Flusses Chiles, dem Bio Bio, gelegen. Reserva Nonguén – Wildlife Preserve near Concepción

In the nearby surroundings of Concepción, only around twenty minutes from the center, is the Nonguén Preserve, a CONAF run green spot where people practice eco tourism, mountain biking, trecking, or just relax. The wildlife preserve is open Monday through Sunday from 10:00 to 16:30. Contact HelloChile for informations about the necessary permit. The entrance is free of charge.

Reserva Nonguén – Natur – Reservat nahe Concepción

Camino del Agua is a spa in the middle of the forests of Nonguén, only ten minutes from the city center of  Concepción. There are one dry and one wet sauna, massage, relaxation rooms and a big swimming pool available. Outside are wooden tubs.  Camino del Agua offers different services which start at around CLP 15.ooo.- (only sauna and pool, Tuesday through Friday) and ascend with more associated services, such as massage, meals at the restaurant, etc.

Cerro Amarillo - Hualpén

The Cerro Amarillo is a hill in Hualpén, from which you have a nice overview on Hualpén, Concepción, and Talcahuano.

One of Concepción´s green tourism spots is the Laguna Redonda, park- like small lake where people go jogging, mountain biking, relaxing, or just take a walk around the lake. Get there by a blue city bus called “micro” from Freire street, lines 30, 32, 41, 43, 62 and 71.

Ein touristisch interessanter grüner Punkt in Concepción ist die Laguna Redonda. Der kleine runde See ist lädt Hobbysportler und Spaziergänger zum joggen, Rad fahren, aber auch einfach nur zum Relaxen ein. Zu erreichen ist die Laguna Redonda von der Innenstadt von Freire aus, wo kleine blaue Stadtbusse, Micro genannt, direkt zum See fahren. Die Linien sind 30, 32, 41,43, 62 und 71.

Only about twenty minutes from the city center of Concepción is the Reserva Nonguén. There are many paths, so visitors can go trecking, hiking and even mountain biking there and the species are almost all endemic, from the impressive Arrayán, a beautiful hardwood tree, the pudú , the dwarf deer, to the Darwin toad.  You get there by car passing by the Concepción zoo, heading further on towards the reserve. The Andes are now covered by snow and all skiing ressorts are open. HelloChile visited the Nevados de Chillán snowboard and skiing ressort on a chilly Friday – and got useful information:

1.) 1 – day ticket price: CLP 30.000.-  (Friday offer: Get two tickets for the price of one) – Find more information HERE!

2.) 1/2 ticket available as of 12:45 – price: CLP 20.000.-

3.) Around 50% of the lifts open, could become overcrowded on weekends. Only one chair lift available for bringing you to the upper (and most beautiful) slopes.

4.) Ski rental open in the ressort, but pricy. Rent your skis in Las Trancas, about 5 km before getting to the skiing ressort.

5.) Bring warm clothes, it can get very chilly – take care in the shadow areas, the slopes might become icy!

6.) Slopes of all difficulties open, but The Las Tres Marias slope, Chile´s longest one,  closed.

7.) Snow mobile rental and cat skiing available on demand.

8.) The road to the Andes might sometimes be icy,  a jeep or 4WD pick- up with chains is recommended. Rent a car, jeep or pick-up HERE!

Esta vez, HelloChile hacía el nexo idiomático (inglés – español) entre una delegación del país africano Ghana y una gran empresa de la zona, durante su visita de inspección de postes de electricidad. El resultado ha sido muy favorable para la empresa chilena.

HelloChile, además de formar el puente idiomático, aprovechó la ocasión para mostrar a su ilustre visita las joyas turísticas de la zona, en especial el Salto del Laja y el sector cordillerano de Antuco – Parque Nacional Laguna del Laja, con el volcán Antuco.

This time, HelloChile built the language bridge between the inspection delegation from the African country Ghana and a big Chilean company. The goal of the visit was the quality control of chemically treated wooden poles, destinated to the electricity supply in Ghana.

HelloChile also had the opportunity to show some of the touristic beauties of the Bio Bio Region, especially the Salto del Laja and parts of the the Laguna del Laja National Park, as well as the city of Los Angeles and Concepción – Lirquén.
